| Goffin Cockatoos are the smallest of the
Cockatoos, but there is nothing small about their personality.
They are probably the most curious of all the Cockatoos. They
are such great escape artists that they would make Houdini
jealous of this ability. They love to play and are quite comical
to watch. Slower to develop, they may be late in talking but
can be good talkers. They are not as cuddly as other Cockatoos,
being more independent, and not as demanding. They can also
be noisy..
They have white with pink highlights in front
of the eyes and on the breast. They are one of the better
talkers among the Cockatoos. They are easy to teach all kinds
of tricks. Cockatoos in general are a very loving type of
bird that needs a lot of attention from their owners. Buy
a Cockatoo only if you can spend a lot of time with it. Goffins
are occasionally noisy. The adults are initially shy and unforthcoming;
however, can easily be tamed and very affectionate. They are
susceptible to beak and feather syndrome (infectious viral
disease causing deficient feather development and beak disfigurement);
the feather defect manifests itself after several years.
They grow to about one foot in length. They
are also seriously endangered.
Cockatoos can be quite loud screechers. The
behavior can be reduced by giving attention and proper surroundings.
Also, since they are prone to chewing, if they are not given
enough attention they will chew their own feathers. They love
to climb and play and chew. Provide lots of toys.
